Yogasopanapūrvačatuśka
‘the preliminary northern stairway to the summit of yoga’
This stairway is made up of the 16 adharas (locations) taught by Guru Goraknāth in order to reach the summit of yogic meditation.
This system utilises the waxing and waning energies of the moon as it moves through the lunar cycle. Each day the moon influences a different location within the physical body. The mind with all its innate constituent parts are drawn together at this centre each day. This renders the body completely still and motionless and allows the ‘Sahaja’, the natural spontaneous light of the inner energy of consciousness, to soar to the heights of equanimity of Dhyana (meditation).
