Complete Shadow Yoga: Practical & Lectures

We are offering all our online content as tools for ongoing learning. This is the complete package of Shadow Yoga materials.

Practical application
The Taranyali Tridha Dhyanam – the Threefold Meditations of the Thunder Dragon, is an ancient and complete meditation system from the tradition of Tantric Hatha Yoga which has been revived and revised by the yogin Sundernath (Shandor Remete) for use by present-day practitioners.

The first stage, Taranyali Krantam, the Emergence of the Thunder Dragon, is a full-practice format involving standing, seated, and meditative activities. You will be able to follow, at your own pace, the individual karanas and asanas which are fully instructed, and review them until they become a flowing meditation.

At the end of the course, you will be able to practise together with Sundernath and Emma in a flowing sequence without interruption.

Suitable for all yoga practitioners including beginners.
Welcome to the teachings of Nrtta Sadhana, the Pure Dance of Shiva. It is here that the aspirant rediscovers the rhythmic life currents hidden within the body by means of unimposed natural positioning.

In this short course, Emma Balnaves will present the Ananda Tandava – Dance of Bliss or Dissolvement – as the whole purpose of yoga is to dissolve oneself into the self. The path of Yoga has nothing to do with the outward flowing of life into matter but is inwards, away from matter and its ongoing transmutation; and leads, finally, to its death.

This course is fully instructional and commences with an introductory lecture. At the conclusion you will be able to practice together with Emma in a flowing sequence without interruption.

Suitable for all yoga practitioners including beginners.
Pranayama Deha Shuddhi refers to the method of cleansing or purifying (shuddhi) the body (deha). Indirectly, Deha Shuddhi also refers to the purification of the mind, as the mind lives within the body and is an extension of it. The Deha Shuddhi practice is offered for the establishment of the necessary and correct body-mindset required for the journey ahead—the path of Laya Krama (the process of reabsorption) that lies beyond Deha Shuddhi.

Open Level – suitable for all levels of yoga practitioner.
The Laya Krama of the Hatha system is a process of cultivation that facilitates an internal transition into the work of reabsorption through the arts of pranayama, mudra, pratyahara and dharana. The required tools for Laya Krama are Nrtta Sadhana and the Weaving Jade Lady, together with their charanas (warm-ups) and vyapakas (rub-downs).

When practiced correctly, Laya Krama enables one to soar to the heights of dhyana, beyond the limitations of the physical form of the body, without neglecting it.

This course is designed for the student to view – and practice – for an extended period of time until the offered teachings are mastered.
Shadow Yoga was conceived by Sundernath (Shandor Remete) & Emma Balnaves in 2000.

This content is a combination of historical sequences from 2000 with the first video being Yoking the Shadow (Chaya Samyukta) featuring Sundernath & directed by Emma. It offers a history of Shadow Yoga from 2000-2008 through the development of these prelude forms over this time. The content is chaptered so you can choose from where you wish to follow.

Note: These forms are for visual learning and are not led with voice over.
Instructional – Lecture-based
The sixteen Adharas make up the hidden path of Shiva’s moon. Without the knowledge and support of these, the process of reabsorption (Laya Krama) is not possible.

This three-part course will disclose the hidden art of utilising the moon’s energy during the fluctuating light and dark phases of waxing and waning, and will offer instruction to harmoniously harness the fluctuations of the mind by adapting to the ruling energy of each day and night in this cycle.

Note: This is a lecture-style course for yoga practitioners to apply to their personal sadhana. Suitable for all yoga practitioners of all levels.
This series of seven one hour discourses with Sundernath is suitable for mature practitioners of Hatha Yoga. Sundernath covered the five activities that are each penetrated by, and all interconnected through, the application of pranayama according to its different rhythmic modes of Adama (low), Madyama (central) and Uttama  (high or intense).

The series includes:

Pranayama in Asana-krama, Pranayama in Mudra and Kriya, Pranayama in Pratyahara, Dharana and Dhyana, Pranayama within the stages of Samadhi up and until entry into the state of Unmani-bhava or Unmani-avastha, and Pranayama within the stages of Khecari Mudra through to the seven crowning procedures of Sambhavi Mudra that reflect and confirm the truth of each step of the preceding journey.

These discourses are open to all practitioners of yoga with a strong and steady practice of asana, mudra and kriya irrespective of style or school.
Sundernath (Shandor Remete) shares information imparted to him and gives guidance on how to proceed on the path of yoga.

These twelve discourses explain the hidden instructions within the prayers, the technical keys to Nrtta (pure dance), Asanas, Mudras, Pranayamas, and more. It is the first time the information given to Sundernath by his Guru has been revealed.

The series includes:
  • Pranam (Invocation)
  • The Five Nath Gurus
  • The Appropriate Tools for the Journey
  • The Appropriate Tools for the Journey – the Asanas
  • Pranayama
  • The mental exercises of Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana
  • Conclusion
Note: These discourses will only be relevant to Shadow Yoga practitioners.
This lecture and demonstration reveals and elucidates the process of this embodied ritual. Although still in use among some of the Nath and Vajrayana Buddhist yogin ascetics, little is known or understood about this essential core practice in modern-day yoga. The tools of this practice are the asanas-mudras, pranayamas, and the mantras that interweave them.

This session is conducted by Sundernath (Shandor Remete), an initiate of the Goraknath lineage of the Mrigasthal Gorakhnath temple, Kathmandu, Nepal.
How to utilise the female energy and understand the three phases of a woman’s life. Emma Balnaves has lectured on this topic on many occasions and now shares her insight with a wider audience. This lecture series for women is about the three important stages of her life. Topics covered: Menstruation, Pregnancy, Menopause and includes a Q&A with a Practice & Conclusion.

Almost three hours of content and indexed by topic.

If you are unsure about committing for 12 months or wish to sample the offerings for a shorter period, you may also subscribe on a month-to-month basis.

Meditations of the Thunder Dragon (Taranyali Dhyanam)

with Sundernath

Over the past twenty years, we have introduced and taught all the preparatory practices required to cultivate the subtle energy and initiate the gathering of vital power that leads to the spontaneous or natural state of Sahajavasta which is the highest peak of meditation.

These practices and technical tools were laid out in Sundernath’s book Taranyali Tridha Dhyanam in the chapters on Krantam and Kriya. In the last chapter, he introduces the principles and characteristics of the final phase to which they lead – the acquisition of Shambhavi Mudra. These properties can be summed up in the term prasādājñā which implies that this mudra has a double nature – Rudra Shakti, the command of authority for the removal of impurities and Kundalini Shakti, the command of grace. When these two energies are drawn together into a single point the portal of transmission is opened. In this explanation I gave enough for genuine seekers to gain some sense of the path ahead and the demands that it would make.

The time has come to teach those individuals who are suitably prepared and open, by practical steps and in a systematic manner, the complete process through to this final stage.

This will be undertaken in four stages as follows:

  1. The Sheathing of Thunder and Lightning
  2. Stabilising the Thunder and Lightning
  3. Opening the Sky and Flooding
  4. The Arousal of Hamsah – the Anahata Nad, (the unstruck sound of the heart).
    Shambhavi Mudra

Each stage will consist of three-weekend workshops, each weekend consisting of three sessions. Between these stages, the students will be given suitable time to practice and absorb what they have learned before proceeding further.
